Ein starkes Deutschland. Eine Weltordnung die es nicht dulden wollte. Presse,
Politik, Krieg, Inflation — Schritt für Schritt gesägt, bis es kippte. Und während
Millionen starben, wurden andere reicher.
Deutschland um 1900 war kein krankes Reich. Es war eines der stärksten, innovativsten und
wirtschaftlich dynamischsten Länder der Welt. Es hatte die beste Wissenschaft, die modernste
Sozialgesetzgebung, eine wachsende Industrie und eine aufstrebende Mittelschicht.
Zwanzig Jahre später war es am Boden. Besiegt, gedemütigt, ausgeplündert. Und dreißig
Jahre später lag halb Europa in Trümmern.
Die offizielle Erklärung: Deutschland war aggressiv, militaristisch, schuldig. Es hat den Krieg
gewollt und die Konsequenzen getragen.
Die unbequemere Frage: War ein so starkes Deutschland vielleicht zu stark für andere — und
wurde deshalb gesägt, bis es kippte?
